Main article: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days (film)
There has been rumors that a third film would come out in 2012, and Devon Bostick (Rodrick) states that he is "90% sure it will happen". It was 100% when Zachary Gordon (Greg) said on his Facebook page that the movie is currently filming in August 2011,.[3] rumors said that the film would contain most scenes from The Last Straw and a little from Dog Days. Producers and writers are also planning on writing the script and they claimed they needed a casting for Alex Aruda who is rumored that he would be in the next film. Like the second film, it will once again be directed by David Bowers. It started filming as of August 9, 2011. Gordon announced that the film's title was changed to Dog Days.

Plot
It is almost the holiday season, and Gregory is becoming a nervous wreck due to the constant pressure to behave for the entire month of December being put on him by his parents. He is also nervous of Santa "seeing him when he's sleeping and knowing when he's awake" and doubtful of his naughty or nice list. To make matters worse, Greg's mother stumbles upon "Santa's Scout", a magical elf that observes the behavior of children and then reports back to Santa at the North Pole, which causes Greg to become even more nervous.
Greg is also in trouble with the police. Greg tries to sell "drummies" or drumsticks for a lower price. He and Rowley go to put up posters to advertise. His latest money making scheme backfires when neon green paint from the posters leaks onto the school wall and Greg and Rowley flee. After Rowley makes a anonymous tip Greg is caught and has to clean off the paint. When Greg returns home there is a note from the police and Greg assumes it is because of the poster incident and the police will send him to prison. A blizzard comes and Greg, Rodrick, Mom and Manny are snowed in. Eventually they start to run out of food and the power goes out. When Rowley visits and tells Greg the power was never out Greg checks the circuit breaker and sees all power except to Manny's room is off and realizes Manny cut off all power. Greg's dad is able to get home on Christmas Eve (which Mom calls a Christmas miracle) and gives them all more food which they eat happily. Later the police come over and Greg realizes that they only came over before for toys for the toy drive and that he isn't in trouble.

Creation
Kinney was trapped inside his house in New England during a blizzard that happened in January of 2011. He stated that for three long months, the snow piled up and his new dog he had got before the blizzard happened had an only knowledge of a tunnel that was dug on the piled-up snow to 'supposedly' relieve himself.(He said that the dog relieved in the heated family room of Kinney's home)He was also trapped in New Jersey when a hurricane named Irene started tearing the state down in late 2011 and was afraid he may never get back.
